Background

Job Leap was conceived as a next-generation job search platform with one guiding principle: reduce the friction between finding a role and applying for it. Too many job boards treat the application step as an afterthought, sending candidates off to external sites or burying them in lengthy forms. Job Leap wanted to do things differently, and they came to us with a clear brief and an ambitious timeline.

The Challenge

The recruitment technology space is crowded, and standing out requires more than just a fresh coat of paint. Job Leap needed a platform that was technically robust enough to handle high volumes of listings and applications, while offering something meaningfully better in terms of user experience. Specifically, the brief called for:

  • An intelligent matching system that could surface relevant roles without relying solely on keyword search
  • A streamlined application workflow that minimised the number of clicks between discovering a vacancy and submitting an application
  • A modern, uncluttered interface that felt contemporary without sacrificing usability

There was also a practical constraint. The platform needed to integrate with existing employer applicant tracking systems via standard APIs, so that vacancies could flow in and applications could flow out without manual intervention.

The Solution

We built Job Leap on ASP.NET and C#, with SQL Server handling the core data layer and Elastic Search delivering the search and matching functionality. The whole platform was hosted on Azure, giving us the flexibility to scale resources in line with traffic patterns.

Matching Engine

The matching logic went beyond simple keyword comparison. We built a weighted scoring system in C# that considered factors including sector, location, salary range, required qualifications, and the candidate’s stated preferences. When a candidate logged in, their dashboard presented a ranked list of recommended roles updated in near real-time as new vacancies were indexed.

Application Workflow

We stripped the application process back to its essentials. Registered candidates could apply for most roles in two clicks, with their profile information and CV pulled through automatically. For roles requiring additional information, we used conditional form fields so that candidates only ever saw questions relevant to that specific vacancy.

Integration Layer

A RESTful API layer allowed employer ATS platforms to push vacancies into Job Leap and pull application data back out, keeping both systems synchronised without manual effort.

The Outcome

Job Leap launched with a polished, performant platform that delivered on its core promise. The average time from search to submitted application dropped significantly compared to industry norms, and early feedback from both candidates and employers highlighted the quality of the matching recommendations. The clean interface and fast load times contributed to strong engagement metrics, with users returning regularly rather than treating the site as a one-visit resource.
